We founded Local Slang in appreciation for our home town after all the conversations we’ve had about what really makes this place special. One thing we kept coming back to is the question of what makes Woodstock what it is today and what makes it vastly different from so many other American towns. It’s so much more than the event in 1969 that happened down the road in Bethel, the town was a special place before then, and it still is today.

Woodstock became a destination because of a lot of things. It was, and still is, an artist’s colony. It’s about Painting, Drawing, Music, Film, Theatre, Writing, Dance, Photography and much more. It’s a place in the mountains where people came to express themselves, be themselves and feel accepted. Not much in the way of judgements. That’s still a major theme in 2022. It’s still about acceptance, connectivity, commonality and history.

And it can’t go without being mentioned, that before people from all over started to come here around 1903, there were local Woodstockers doing their thing a long time before that.

Somehow this imperfect thing worked, and still does.

People here support each other in interesting ways, and we carry on that tradition by creating and finishing things as locally as possible. We are also beginning to collaborate with local artists on limited edition designs and new products.

Our Brand celebrates a sense of belonging for people who do know and a sense of discovery for people who don’t know yet. We’d love you to grow with us.
